Some other names not mentioned:
Herbert Chapman - won the first two 'three-peat' League Championships, at Huddersfield 1924/5/6 and Arsenal 1932/3/4 - introduced off-colour socks to help players pick out the right legs to kick in a melee, and more importantly invented the 'third-back' defence; other innovations included floodlit football and numbers, as well as lots of player treatment ideas
Major Frank Buckley - probably the best manager never to win a major trophy, refined a lot of Chapman's methods at Wolves before the war
Stan Cullis - King of Wolves

Brian Clough, without a doubt. Who else can take a small club up from the second division one season, win the league title the next and the European cup the next! That after winning league titles with Derby County too ....
I'm an Arsenal fan, and in many ways I think Wenger is a god like figure, he has done wonders, transformed the club in such a quick space of time when he took over in 1996, prolonged the careers of the back 5, Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Keown and Winterburn .... revolutionised the backward way English clubs treated players in terms of psychology, diet, fitness, is a magician in the transfer mkt and scouting youth players around the globe. He's great, but he's not the best ever!

I think Marcelo Lippi is the most underrated manager. You saw what he did for Italy during the wc and when he left the team became terrible. And he has won the UCL with juve before their match fixing days, he certainly has class. But Sir Alex Ferguson has been the most consistent manager to date lasting 20 years and winning 7 EPL titles. But for me the best is Mourinho, he can walk in to any job and win. Hes done it all except the world cup, and he did it with a relatively lesser team then Chelsea at Porto. Although Chelsea have a much stronger competition then the Portuguese league, the EPL.

That is a great question mate. In the modern game I would agree that sir Alex stands out simply for sustained success over 20 years with just one club (besides his previous success with Aberdeen) But the best achievement in history has to be Jock Stein for his triumph in the European cup with a team solely from the Glasgow area

Sir Alex Ferguson.... Just look at what he has won over the past 20 years. To stay at a massive club for so long in the modern game with the weight of expectation to win things every season is phenominal

Sir Alex Ferguson. Nobody in any profession (at such highs and lows!) has kept the same job for the same period as him. He is also the only person who truly has a job he lives and does not want to retire from? Bet he is not exactly looking forward to his life-presidency at OT - sitting all the way up the back in the VIP Suites - pitch-side is where he is most comfortable!

Must be someone like Sir Alex. How long has he been at Man U?
How much success has he had with them? Just when you thought he was past his best, he produces another top season. Whether Man U win the league or not, holding back Chelsea and Arsenal is no mean feat. They just keep getting better!
