I can remember back when I was a child in the late 50's, we had an ice storm that knocked all the power out. I remember the ice all over everything,of course, I thought it was beautiful. The adults, however, were more concerned about the storm.

I can remember two when I lived in NY, a mile from the shore of Lake Ontario. We received 4-1/2 feet of snow overnight. That's not measuring drifts! Also, in 1991, we had an ice storm that killed 400,000 trees, some well over 100 years old. Telephone poles cracked in two. There was no power for days and sometimes weeks for those in the rural areas.

I don't remember what year it was , but I was living in England at the time - I can only have been 4 or 5... I remember that the gales blew my granddad's greenhouse away, and my mum went outside in all the wind to see what damage had been done, all I remember was being really scared that my mum would blow away, and watching out of the window... I think that day was whan I started biting my nails!

Could have been 1988-89???

I live in Spain now, and we had the worst snowstorm up here in the mountains this year that we have had for 30 years!!!

There was a storm last summer and it was raining cats and dogs, but the wind was scary.

I woke up the next day, my street was flooded, my suburb was flooded and in the end, the trains couldn;t run and the cars couldn't use the highway because the creek flooded and burst it's banks. Amazing force of nature.

When I was a teenager, my family and I were caught in a hurricane off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I cannot remember the hurricane's name (this was sometime in 1986), but I am sure there are many here who have been through a hurricane or two.

I think it was 1992, hurrican alicia traveled inland from galveston quite a long ways. tornadoes shot off like crazy and several shot all around the town I lived in (80 miles from galveston)
one tornado whipped through the neighborhood I lived in taking out quite a few homes. and of course there was the flooding to deal with too.

I believe it was in 1987 we were snowed in... we took the window off to clime out the door because the door wouldn't open. the car was completely covered. almost everything closed down except for a few odd stores the military were picking up nurses etc to get them to work they had snow mobiles and tanks out...no cars.
