We loved doing puppet shows for our parents when we were kids! All they need is a few pieces of card, some crayons and a lot of imagination (and the back of a sofa).
Failing that, get some washing up liquid into the sink and make bubbles. See how big they can both make them! Get some spare paint under the stairs cupboard and make bubble pictures.
They could also dress up in Mum/Dad's clothes...
Or read them a story. Take them to a library, if it is within walking distance.

Why not put some cartoons on the computer for them, or find a kids site that suggests fun games for them to play. With a few bits and pieces from around the house, they can make something. Another great idea is to put a few chairs in a triangle shape and throw a few large bed sheets over the top to make a cubby house. Put some pillows inside and give them food to eat in there too. They will have fun for ages doing that!

Try to find something around your house that you can think of to start playing with your kids. Let your 8 year old daughter set up a blank as a tent in the living room to play with her little brother with the toys. Use your imagination!

Tell them the couch is now a boat and the floor or carpet is water and let the fun begin! Warning though, I told my daughter a shark was chasing us and she believed me (of course, duh) and was afraid to walk on the floor that whole rest of the day. So maybe pretend dolphins and fish are swimming around and who knows what else? Maybe your daughter can be a mermaid while you and your son are pirates!
Okay, this will only take up maybe 15-30 minutes of your day but it's fun. :o)

Get the play dough out and let the kids go to town. If you don't have any play dough, look up the receipe on the internet and make it with them. It's cheap and fun!

You can, blow bubbles with dishwashing soap, and water, and add some sugar..and you can have more colorful bubbles, You can have a scavanger hunt, you can put rice in a dish tub, and animals in the tub, and or plastic people, animals cars trees, whatever and they can play in the tub, or you can put water in the tub, or you can put cornmeal, or sand!
You can do art with a sponge, caro syrup, and either water color paints and or food coloring(which the pictures will be sticky fun!)
you can paint on large white paper(butcher paper) or what ever you have around..with chocolate pudding mix, or shaving cream, or whipped cream, or you can make silly putty, with elmers glue, and borax, and warm water, and add food coloring or water colors to the silly putty, to get a color. You can also make oobleck, with water food coloring (or not..option) and corn starch! This is hours of goopy fun!
You can draw a picture with crayons...using all sorts of colors, then, color over in black, and then taking an edge of say a kids scissors, you can scrape off the black, and see the beautiful rainbow crayon color design underneath!
You can make a smoosh print with pain...by painting with kids non-toxic paint,on a large white or any color paper, and then fold up the painting and then reopen it...!
you can do a cooking project...make chocolate chip cookies..and teach them measuring...and sifting etc....
you can make "stone soup" buy finding a great stone , cleaning it off, putting it into the soup, and boiling it,and adding each thing into the soup tasting and seasoning, and stirring ,and adding ,all along!
You can have "find it's" in the house hold...hide a certain amount of things...and let them find it...if they are "hot" or near it...clap or sing...aloud...if they are "Cold" or far from it...tell them "Boy! Is is freezing! Oh my goodness, my ears have dropped off, it is soooo Brrrrrr cold!!!' They should get the picture! LOL!
be creative....think of things that you wished you could have done when you were little ,,,,think of things that were delightfully fun for you and your friends when you were small!
Tell stories...and have them add on a word, or a phrase, or something interesting!
play music, dance, and freeze into a shape! then when the music starts up again, move!
lie down and relax and listen to different composers...try to see what the music sounds like to you....if you can see pictures in your mind..and what about those pictures....describe what you saw to the person sitting next to you...
play role playing...take two people, and set them up...you can move their bodies, and situate them in any position....then tell them "Start"...they have to interact with one another...sometimes you can tell them, "alright, you have to speak, with your noses closed, or you can only speak la, la, la! or say this word,,,,uhoh!
or this sentence....I lost my shoes...or whatever you want for them to say!
tell them to act out something,
tell two lies and one thing that is true...
then you must guess which one was the truth, and which two were the lies,...or reverse that...which one was the lie,and which two were the truth?
Get creative..and have fun!
with a baby,....sing to the child, read, as much as you can....for both children, will become so much smarter... Take them to the library...sometimes they have a librarian that reads to kids...or you can be the reader!
take them to an aquarium or a museum, or to a merry-go-round if there is one....take them on a lovely hike or walk..(if any of these things are near or close by...etc...)

Watch t.v., or a movie, play some games, etc., read some books with them, grab some paper, do they like to draw? or coloring books & crayons,....(I don't have any kids but that's what I'd do.)
