I've always been a Sabres fan since I figured out what hockey was when I was little. I grew up in Western NY, but now I live in Virginia Beach, and I'm even starting to see Sabres hats and jersey around here, in Virginia. What the hell is that all about? 95% of the people in this town have never even skated in they're life. I just think it's funny really, bandwagoners dont really bother me though. But if I lived back home, it would probably annoy me that I cant get a ticket to a game. But I'm going up to DC for the Sabres game in April, I'm sure the Blue and Gold will be abundant up there, it should be funny.

I'm not a Sabres fan, but I loathe bandwagon fans. It bothers me to no end people who only support a team because they are doing well. I just tell myself that the real fans suffer through the tough years and therefore the good years are that much sweeter. The bandwagon fans aren't really invested in the team since they supported Carolina last year, which means they won't truly feel bad if the Sabres don't win the cup this year. You should also keep in mind those bandwagon fans are hopefully buying merchandise which will help your team keep or get the good players in the NHL. By the way the only reason I know any players of the Sabres is because I work with a die-hard Buffalo native.

It's nice to see some real fans on here. Bandwagon fans are even worse when they jump on a team that you root for.

Remember a few years ago when the Sabres were a decent team at best? They were in danger of moving for different reasons and a big reason was fan support. I remember when it was easy to get a ticket with a couple hours to spare before the game ... and the building was filled with fans who crossed the border (Toronto->Hamilton area).

At least the Sabres are more financially stable now. Maybe some of the bandwagoners will actually turn into hockey fans. Let's wait til the Sabres suck again and see what happens.

But for the record, I agree with you 100%, it is very annoying.

I am also a die hard Sabres fan. But honestly, once I heard the lineup after the lockout, I could name maybe 3 Sabres. Doesn't mean I am a bandwagon fan. They were just straight up a bunch of no-names who never heard of, except a few. But now.. since I watched all of last season.. I learned all the players names and all their numbers. It does bother me that people love them now, and I could own hockey smart any of them any day. I've watched the Sabres every season since I've started liking hockey, even through the bad season.. and the season before the lockout where they were only a couple games out of the playoffs.. was a crazy season. And back in the Stanley Cup about 8 years ago, that was a bad call possibly, not 100%, but I was yelling/screaming.

I couldn't disagree more. There are always going to be varying degrees of interest in the team and a winning team will always be easier to get behind. This is natural.

I was raised in a hockey family in Buffalo so I've been a Sabres fan literally as long as I can remember, but it doesn't bother me that more people are taking an interest in the team now. The more the merrier. This town was really alive during the playoffs last year and it was a lot of fun.

I lived in Boston when they won the World Series. I'm not much of a baseball fan. Should I not have watched the playoffs that year out of some sense of not "deserving" to watch it? That's crazy. I watched it and I did cheer for the Red Sox. The difference between me and a lifelong diehard Sox fan is that he took with him the sense of vindication and probably some of the greatest memories of his life. I just watched some baseball games that I enjoyed.

Accept the people who want to celebrate the team's success and know that your celebration is deeper and more meaningful because of your long history as a fan.

I am a diehard Leafs fan and my team is lucky to sell out every game. It kind of sucks that your team has a bunch of bandwagon fans but is this not better than having no fans and the team having to fold and move out of Buffalo. The arenas today hold over 17,000 people and at any given game there are bound to be bandwagon fans there. Most diehard fans can not afford to go to every game so without the bandwagon fans the team may not be able to survive, especially in the smaller market cities. Most teams will figure out if they don't put a good team on the ice not as many fans will show up and they will be forced to get better. The days of Harold Ballard signing sub par players in the 70's and 80's and keeping the payroll down are gone. I hate bandwagon fans as much as you do but as a fan of hockey in general I can see that they do help the game. Possibly some if them will become true hockey fans and that is good for the game as well.

Yeah I'm a Penguins fan and can relate. The last 4 years were rough, and unlike you Sabres fans we were spoiled first. So after one bad year and the "firesale" you suddenly see no more Penguins fans in general. Now just about everyone wants to be a fan of our team. I wish the Bandwagon fans would just stop. No team should need the fair-weather fans. They need TRUE fans.

Bandwagon fans are a part of any successful team. That just means whatever team is winning. You have to cheer for a small market team whenever they are doing well, whether that is Buffalo, Pittsburgh, etc.

Credit has to be given to the Sabres owner, management, coach, and AHL Americans for developing their players. This credit can be given to other teams that are doing well too, Ducks, Preds, Thrashers and so on.

Personally, I grew up south of Buffalo (Angola) and have been a Sabres fan as long as I can remember, and that was way back when Don Luce, Jerry Korab, The French Connection, Dave Dryden, Roger Crozier, Craig Ramsey and other players of that era skated.

I'm glad to see them doing well and I hope it continues deep within the playoffs.

I have to agree with you 100%. I love the sabres and I always will even if they go without a win the whole season. It's annoying not being able to go to games, because you have fans that can name only the well known players(Max,Drury,Miller,Briere) and wouldn't love them if they were under .500. When i went to the pens game this year in buffalo the fans next to me were reading a book the whole game and the other fans arrived in the 2nd period. It's so frustrating seeing these fans trying to "love" the sabres.
