Will Smith, Dave Chappelle, Edward Norton. Marilyn Manson, Patrick Steward, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery, and Liam Neeson.
All of these people have worked their tails off to get where they have and they have dared to push the evelope, created new discourse about a variety of issues, and are extremely intelligent people. They also all have very good senses of humor.

I think any celebrities shouldn't be stuck with being a role model, only because they are human and everytime they do something dumb or immoral, everyone makes a big deal of it.
It's great to be inspired by their success but not how they actually carry out their life.
But to answer your question.
Any celebrity who spend their spare time to helping kids, and providing funds for music education.

I've always thought Mandy Moore was a pretty good role model for teens. She seems to be very real and down to earth, not a size zero, and doesn't take herself too seriously. She's also not limited herself to one thing. Other than Ms. Moore, Anne Hathaway seems to be on the right track.

Hillary Duff and Anne Hathaway.
Why? You never hear any bad publicity about either of them. They play good, clean girl next door roles (very well I may add) and apparently, Hillary was even put on an allowance by her Mom, even though she earns Millions. She is really a sweet down to earth girl.
The Olson Twins are another example, other than the eating problems. They have been earning money and investing all over the place since they were knee high to a grasshopper. They have a whole "business" going on.

Probably Hilary and Hailey Duff. They are a lot more wholesome then Britney, Lindsy and Paris.
