It is a television-thing. It is too hard for the viewing public to have to read sub-titles all the time and they would have to devote entire episodes to the 'gate team' having to learn a new language everytime they arrived on a new planet...
It is poorly addressed in 'Star Trek' in the DS9 episode, "Little Green Men", that everyone has a tiny universal translator either in their ear (as the Frengi do) or on their uniform (the communicator badge) that translates all the time and everyone is speaking their own language. However, it never explained why SOME words weren't translated, such as an old Klingon proverb or an alien swear word.
Basically, the fact that ALL aliens on basically ALL sci-fi shows speak english is just due to the fact that it is easier... The REAL question is why are ALL villians in sci-fi speaking with a British accent?!?

Because it would be hard to understand if they were speaking an alien language, if you want a better explanation the asgard have been observing humanity for a long period of time so they probably picked up a few new languages in the process, it makes it a lot easier to understand the people you're observing if you know what they are saying
who knows maybe they have some kind of universal translator like on star trek

i love SG1 a lot more beneficial efficient than Atlantis. favourite SG1 episode? 2 hundred! there's a producer who's making the stargate exploits right into a movie, and each and every of the persons, Daniel, Carter, Valla, T'ealc etc. make up plots for the action picture, going everywhere from area zombies to a dawson's creek SG1 with young ones. Holy jeez, it truly is were given to be the perfect/funniest episode i have ever considered! won't be able to watch for both SG1 videos made for television that are gonna air, concluding their conflict with the Ori. Samantha Carter is shifting to Atlantis finished time, and they are gonna make yet another Stargate tutor with more than a number of cameos of our favourite SG1 characters. Who is favourite with? perchance those made for television SG1 videos will carry new existence to the sequence SG1 that we've all come to understand and love. This sh** has been on for over a decade, and if those made for television videos are a success, i wish we will get some more beneficial seasons of the SG1 sequence that began all of it!!!

They just sorta glossed over it. The explanation is that because all the humans were originally "harvested" from earth, they all ended up speaking English (kinda dumb, but we're not supposed to think about it too closely) Also, every so often they would throw in some people who didn't speak English, and then Daniel would have to come along and translate, and miraculously, it was always some dialect from some part of the world that he spoke. :)
