Best footballer of the year award is given is given for all-round performance in all competitions that a player takes part in in the entire year and not just one competition.
Since Zidane had performed exceptionally in only the world cup but done disastrously at the club level, so I think he was not awarded the award.

It was because of the Red card That he earned after butting Materrazi in the chest.well If I had a Say Zizou would be the Best Player

Because he headbutted Materazzi during the final game and got a red card for it. It was a really bad way for him to end his career like that... he should've used better judgement.

they didn't giv it 2 zidane cos of that thing with materazzi, most probably or maybe he was too good for the best player standard as he was nominated for the player of the century.
