Be honest and be yourself. Always good to remember the little things as well such as birthdays. Presents are always good on birthdays although find out what the other persons likes and dislikes are - the present itself doesn't have to be a grand gesture but something they will appreciate [I was bought a print that I mentioned ages ago was my favourite artists picture which surprised and delighted me as didn't realised he had remembered!]. Presents can also be good when spontaneous such as a bar of their fave chocolate, flowers and so on and with spontaneity there doesn't have to be set dates, times and amounts. When you say 'tell you things' - talking and being open and honest in a relationship is always good.
Generally, you will get the feel of things if the person you are with is honest, open and is themself.

be honest a truthful to an extent i mean don't ever tell her she has put on weight. remember dates like birthday anniversary valentines an so on. an as 4 presents be spontaneous intimate candle nights in can be better then a bunch of flowers an a box of chocs. put some thought in to it find out what she would like.

Be honest, don't go home or to bed mad, don't cheat, show her respect and let her know in some subtle way everyday that you love her, like doing the dishes, telling her she looks nice, hold her hand, a nice big hug, that to me means more than any card, present or an I love you, those are just words, and actions speak louder.

Listen to and respect you girlfriend treat her like a lady, you can not be perfect so do not try to be, just try and be the best you can everyday and tell her how much you lover her.

I think it's very sweet you want to be the best! But don't worry about that - just make sure you tell her you love her, that you think she's the best thing since sliced bread (assuming you do of course!) include her in your life, respect her, be sensitive to her feelings - make a big deal of her :) Girls want to feel loved and I'm sure you can do a really good job! Just be her best friend.
