as the title says becuase i am on 576k broadband and i am only downloading at 52k/s which is really frustrating

That's a unusual speed for broadband. Download speeds are sometimes affected by the servers you're downloading from. Anyway, the best download manager I know is Flashget from www.flashget.com. It can download from multiple sites if the material you want is located on multiple servers, thus eliminating server bootleneck. I would also check the setting on your modem/router.

There are many softwares that are used to download faster.
The best two are:
Internet Download Manager(IDM)
Download Accelerator Plus(DAP)
You can search over net and find them for free at www.download.com

Contact your broadband provider and get them to check that out first, nothing you do can have much effect if theres a problem their end.
