While I was in the middle of labor my then boyfriend came up to me stroking my hand and said,

"do you want me to sing to you?"

I looked at him and said,

"if it makes YOU feel better."

Then in the middle of pushing I farted, stopped pushing immediately, looked at everyone in the room and said,

"Excuse me, I'm sorry."

The hubby kept trying to get me to say "YOU did this to me!!!" like in the Cosby routine. We had joked about it beforehand with me saying I was not going to say anything like that, so while I was laboring, he would say "Go on, say it, you know you want to..." and it would make me laugh or smile.

After I had managed to push the head out, the midwives said there was a cord wrap, and told me not to push while they unwrapped it. "Don't push" has got to be the hardest instruction any woman in labor has ever been asked to follow. So I managed to 'breathe out' two contractions while they fixed it and when they said, "OK you can push on the next one," OH BOY did I. Since the head is the hard part anyway, then next push almost literally shot the rest of him out, and the hubby swears he flew across the bed like in the opening to Big Fish.

We hadn't found out if he would be a girl or a boy at that point, and by the time I was wondering, they had laid him on my belly, so obviously I couldn't see the relevant 'parts'. So I was trying to figure out how to ask without sounding weird while still in labor to pass the placenta and dealing with the emotion of it all.

Fun times, fun times. *grin*

I dont know weather this is what you mean, but when I was 6 cm dialated with my 2nd child I finally got my epidural. It was wonderful, and I just lay on the bed watching "Who wants to be a millionaire" in total relaxation just like a night in at home. It was wonderful, I was saying the answers and debating with my husband. Who would have known I was in full on labor! I still look back and laugh!!

I had a real TV moment - my labour and birth for my 4th child was filmed for a midwifery training video. Does that count?
