I'm going to second Ludo's suggestion above for the "10 Days in" series by Out of the Box Games. Aside from being well designed games with good play (which I think is critical for any education to take place), they are a good source of information on the area. Country cards include capitals, populations, and other useful tidbits of information. Game play is quick (20-30 min per game) which reduces boredom and increases fun.

They are limited, in that there are only currently games for USA, Africa, Europe and Asia. Definitely give them a try. Out of the Box also produces some other quality games which might help with your other question on educational games.

Happy gaming!

Kids (all people for that matter) learn from repetition. These games will reinforce geography.
The Carmen Sandiego Series from University Games features trivia questions. The 10 Days series from Out of the Box forces players to locate places to come up with a scoring combination to win the game. Game of the States by Milton Bradley and Winning Moves has players travel through a map of the US to pick up and deliver goods. I recommend all those games. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego is a good one for younger children but also there are some good war games for older children where they learn the countries as part of the game like Axis and Allies or Rome.

You absolutely must get the kids to play a game called RISK. Apart from teaching geography, its a game which sharpens the mind. You have different versions with an old world map in case of the classic game to a new world map in the latest version called RISK III.
