Hi,
Oh boy do you have my sympathy, I refuse to go down the HRT route and have tried several alternatives, there is one advertised on the TV called Ymea, and if you go to Boots you will find several others all of the same type. I tried the Boots own variety, it worked for 3 months then I guess your system just gets used to it, I left it for a while then tried the Ymea which eased it but didnt stop it.
Its supposed to be the Soya Isoflavones that influence the flushes, unfortunatly they are all just short term answers. The bad news is I have been having mine for 3 years now with no respite and I am 50, people take the Mick but they really dont understand just how awful it can be and how it can really drag you down, especially with the terrible lack of sleep.
The really scary thing is my mother is 78 and she tells me that she still gets the odd one even now. I have come to the conclusion that we just have to put up with it.
I just wish people would understand it and stop treating it with such amusement, Its a genuine and unpleasant condition for which there seems to be little help.

Yes, indeed I do. Although you won't be entirely rid of hot flushes and/or night sweats, I've found that Holland & Barrett's "Flash Fighters" work wonders when taken three times a day. I take one first thing in the morning, another about 4pm, and the last one just before going to bed at night. I also supplement those tablets with 10 drops of sage tincture once a day. I've found that I need to switch supplements about once every six months, which is common with herbal remedies because your body becomes 'immune' to the substances. I switch to something else for about a month, and then go straight back to Flash Fighters. Another good supplement is Menolife capsules, which is what I usually take during that time-off-Flash-Fighters period of time. The other things to consider is that sugar, caffeine, and ciggies all contribute to hot flushes, so if any of those are part of your lifestyle, you might consider cutting back to see if your symptoms improve.

Go to the Mannatech website. There is a basic food supplement plan. (pill form) The cells in your body talk to each other and if one is missing for any reason, problems happen within the body. I've tried all kinds of things, but this worked. I am in my 50's and I sleep good, my weight is great and I have no signs of menopause even though I have had a hysterectomy. I am on this life plan forever!

Don't wear moisturizers on your skin or suntan lotion on your skin. The oils in these lotions trap in the heat and will make you feel hotter. When you feel yourself getting hot, take a water spray bottle and spray a mist of water over your skin to keep it cool. Only wear loose cotton clothes and dress in layers so you can take clothes on and off. Do not suntan in the summer! Your skin will stay stay overheated for hours in the evening and at night. You might want to try taking a betablocker which is a high blood pressure medicine that slows down your heart beat a bit. Some say that that the herb feverfew works. I have not tried that. Aveeno makes a moisturizer with feverfew in it. I had hot flushed skin from working in a steel foundry and its horible and for me it continues to be painful in the summer. I stay in my airconditioned room and drink no alcohol or coffee in summer.

Nature's Way makes an herbal formula called "Change-O-Life".
Also, get rid of any polyester (it is made from petro-chemicals) & other non-natural fabrics.
This includes your bedsheets & mattress cover.
Cotton breathes, whereas synthetics allow the regular body heat to become trapped. I know of two people who have eliminated night sweats simply by switching to all natural fiber for their bedding & clothing.
Also, learn about bio-identical hormones, and pass up traditional HRT, it is bad news in the short and long runs.
Good luck, and keep up the search, there is so much help out there when you take a pro-active approach like this.

My mom uses wild yam complex and black cohosh. It has really helped her alot. She also takes iodine which has a multitude of uses for the body. It is found in kelp and most health food stores carry this item. I recommend either or all of these. It has really helped my mother.
Our nurse practitioner even recommends black cohosh for patients, if that helps.
Good luck!!!!
