They have glands at the top of the beak The excess salt is secreted through their nostrils. They don't drink sea water but they do take some in with their food. They get most of their water from their food but I have seen royal penguins on returning to land drinking fresh water from a stream.

Youdin't think before you typed. Pinquins live on land not in the water. They go in the water to get food. When they drink ater it is fresh water on land. They can wxcreet excess salt if needed just s we can and do through the glands.

they do not convert salt water they have a biological filter that removes the salt from the water. this salt is then excreted from two glands just below their eyes.
