Allow 3/4 inch for side/crotch seams. Give an extra inch for waist band and trim down accordingly. Remember to mark front and back with chalk so you don't sew wrong pieces together.
Double stitch- denim needs the reinforcement.
Good luck.

If you are going to make your own jeans this is what I would do... allow at least 1/2 inch for each seam. OK so there are seams on both sides of your legs (one on the inner side (that touches your other leg) and one on the outer side (the side that would brush against something if you were to stand next to something) this way you have a pretty good seam on the inside of your pants. If you are not very good at sewing I would leave more than a 1/2 inch just so that if your lines are not straight then it is OK. Make sure you make your legs long enough and you can just put a smaller hem in the ends of the legs that way it sure to be long enough but i would not go smaller than 1/4 of and inch because then it gets tricky (at least for me and I have been sewing for a few years) for the top of the pants you can do how ever big of a hem you like but make sure that you do not screw up the way the pants fit you if you do your hem to big. Hope this helps!

Standard is 5/8" seam allowance. You're also going to want to make french seams.
