I keep hearing people say it's all in the knees but I do it from the ankle up. And that's tiring. If you're suppose to use your knees how does that work? Side to side or front to back? Any booty advice... trying to get it right for V-day.

Shimmy from side-to-side. Step on one foot, then the other, shakin it the whole time. Google "shimmy". It's a bellydance move.

People say it's all in the knees when they want to emphasise it is not about swinging your butt here and there, it comes from action in the legs. Doing it from the anckles is making it look even better for all I know. You just have to alternate it with some other moves so that your ancles don't get too tired. I'm petty sure you are already using knees too: If you are not keeping your knees straight in the process, or not keeping them bent in the same way at all times then you are already using them. Try and observe: if you stand with both your knees slightly bent, and then you straighten your right knee while keeping your left knee bent then your right side of the butt will go up, correct? This is called using your knees. If you straigthen both your knees at the same time while keeping the upper body at the same level then your whole butt will go up, correct? You will have to tweak this one in front of the mirror to make it look any good though. As for side to side or fron to back - both ways are possible, also, if you can do more complicated shaking like figure 8 kind of type it is even better. There is no correct or incorrect - there is only fun and not so fun. So... have fun!

knees are for the grind???? NOPE
if you want to shake it shake it it's all in the knees believe me . Stand straight but relaxed in front of a mirror slowly bend one knee and then the other this makes alternate hips move up and down as you get into a rhythum ( spelling sorry) speed it up and you'll be shaking like a good un lolol . fast is a shimmy and as you get faster you will cross over into caberet style which i don't do, I think it's called egyptian walk, gl

It is in the hip's , if you just want to shake you're booty , but for the bending of the knee's , that is for if you are gonna grind, up against the guy. So just try to flex the booty muscle's and shake you're hip's at the same time ,, and you got it.
