I may be able to be selfish at times but I am not materialistic in the slightest.
I have only in the past few years started to not be self-less all the time cos that's just not healthy!
But to answer your question, women are probably innately programmed to be materialistic - men & women look for partners who would be the best to have children with - since the beginning of time men have looked for healthy, attractive women to have their children & women have looked for healthy men who can provide for her & the children. It's a case of a human beings basic need for reproduction & survival. Nowadays, that innate need has turned (some) women into materialistic beings.

Why do people (men or women) always make generalizations about something or another? I guess some are materialistic because they can be. However, I have seen just as many materialistic and selfish men in my life as well. Besides, I've always worked for my money and me and my hubby share in both of our incomes. We both are not selfish.

Being as I live with the most selfish and materialistic man I have ever met,I think it has something to do with when they were children,if they had to struggle for everything.People from large family's, especially if they are towards the youngest tend to be this way.

Over the generations women have always been taught to to go for a guy who is wealthy and who will buy them things. Even in todays society when women and men both work and earn the same money it's always expected that the man should pay for things and buy them things without them lifting a finger in return.
You will hardly ever see woman going out with or being married to a man who earns significantly less money than she does. Likewise with physical characteristics, you will notice some reasonably attractive men with ugly or overweight girlfriends, but you will hardly see an attractive woman going out with an ugly or overweight man (men who let themselves go after marriage is a different story).
Don't worry though, we're not all like that ;-)

Generalisations really are terrible things! Some women are materialistic and selfish I agree, but not all. The good one's do exist, but you have to keep an eye out for them. If you deserve to find one, you will. :)

Not al girls are. I think A lot of women who have the money nowadays WILL indeed splurge. I guess because women are competitive and we have people like Paris Hilton who can actually afford stuff being looked up to. so girls just want to copy eachother and compete lol. But most girls have a good heart. Thats how i am, of course i like nice things but if i can' t afford it than oh well.
