He has been selected for the world cup hoping that he will regain his form by the time world cup starts and he will come firing in the world cup. In normal course a player of proven talent do not continue in bad patch for ever and it only require one or two good knocks for him to regain his confidence and come back as a Viru all the cricket lovers know. In the interest of Indian cricket let us hope he will justify his inclusion in the world cup squad by
his performance.

Not only viru, the whole team will perform better in the WC
Australia, West Indies, South Africa and India are strong contenders.
Factors helping India -
The best indian team going for the World Cup after the 1983 Presidential Cup. India has found good openers in Ganguly and Uthappa, with Sehwag in there too. Yuvraj, Dravid, Dhoni and Tendulkar steady the middle order to form one of the best middle order batting. Lower middle order of Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer can hit a few runs too.
As on bowling - Zaheer and Sreesanth/Munaf Patel will be opening and are not as bad. Kumble, Harbhajan and Sachin - Sehwag can bowl many spin overs between them. That leaves one guy extra. He can be employed as a strike bowler - Irfan/Sreesanth or Dinesh Kaarthick as the 11th guy. Irfan can bat as well.
It is a very powerful batting line-up, and make take a beating on their bowling lineup.
Quality Fielders are in plenty - Yuvraj, Uthappa, Sachin, Kaarthick. Fielders like Munaf Patel will have to be hided on the field.
There are all winning chances for India. India will reach the semi-finals for sure.

He has caliber but I think he is lacking confidence.
Viewing the current performances specially in last 2 odi's with SL, I feel he is a gone case now.
He is selected ofcourse 4 WC but I feel he shoudn't be given further chances to prove himself. Playing this way he is wasting the valuable position of someone in Team

YES Definitely. After a slump in his form over the past few months, I think would work hard to maintain the run score and establish a special place for himself. And of course, he is very good in ODI games. Atleast for fear of getting sacked he would play well and get enough runs. After all he is also human and he has his own ups and downs. Let us hope that he will live upto our expectations.

well viru is good player it is only that he is out of form and as dravid said that one innings can bring him back to the form. i personnal feel that viru should concentrate more on cricket than doing modeling and start behaving in most resposible manner as to prove our faith in him
