I am trying to hook up my dell inspiron 9100 laptop to an external monitor. I've downloaded all the drivers, and I have the correct port, but when I connect my laptop with the monitor and press "Fn" "F8" the resolution on my laptop jumps to the lowest resolution and nothing shows up on the external monitor. I have no idea why and neither does Dell, no surprise there. Any ideas?

no ideas, but try F5 on ur desktop.

did u install the external monitor without installing its software with it
check the ports
