V&A Waterfront, good shopping and nice restaurants, for 1 pound you get 14 Rands, on the other side a Cappucino costs 14 Rands! Go up the mountain, get there early and then you stand with your kids in a 2 hour line waiting.

For children with loads of energy you can't do much better than Kirstenbosch for space for them to run and excersise - loads of lawn to mess about on and pathways to walk along. Take a picnic its a wonderful day out and for your enjoyment there is massess of flora to investigage and just enjoy.
Beach for walking - bit cold by then to swim.
Zoo out at Kraaifontain
and of course all the never to be missed ones like Table Mountain, the V&A etc.

Cape town is amazing but I would leave the kids with the grandparents , you'll have so much more fun without them.
