England was ranked by UNICEF to be the worst developed nation and USA is Second from the bottom. Netherland is the best and Scandinavia takes the next 3 top position for living condition for their children. I heard this on the BBC and was wandering if the US news covered it since I stopped listening to the domestic drivel due to bias. Why do you think we did so badly. UNICEF stated English speaking nations belief in freedom and independence is a factor. They also stated a lack of inequality and lack of access to social programs is a factor as well. They stated income was not a factor. Since I know some Yahoo will call me un-American. Lets also question is it liberals fault for their belief of freedom and their resistance to conservative desire to regulate behavior. Also is it conservatives fault for refusing to spend money on social programs. This is going to be a nice fight.

Duke may be right. We should compare our country to Guatamala rather than France. OUr Child welfare is great. No High school shootings. No underage pregnancy. High school drop out is zero. Our kids never ever take drugs or have a self-image problem.

The survey only included European nations as well as U.S. and Canada. I'm disappointed Japan is not included, but it does help eliminate cultural bias to some degree. Comments from the Netherland does seem that the survey is not properly weighted. Dutch complain that their CHildren are so pampered that when entering adulthood, they are not prepared to fend for themselves. I feel that proper preparation for adulthood should be high on the list for child welfare.

I think the unwillingness of the american people to do anything to help their unfortunates...they treat them as if they don't exist. I'm Canadian and I doubt we fared much better on the ranking...but we do have more social programs to help..as in everyone gets free medical

"Also is it conservatives fault for refusing to spend money on social programs."

That is because conservatives haven't had the spine yet to practice what they represent. If they did the laws would be cut and dry...beat your child into the hospital go to jail and your child goes to the nearest relative so the child learns it's wrong not hidden off into fantansy land where they wonder why they were adopted out for the rest of their lives - which is unreasonable treatment to any human being.

Refusing to spend money on social programs? False cases are built every single day and it is those social programs they filter these cases through. It would be just as easy to handle the situation - when it truly is a situation - for a police officer to make a call on true child abuse using his/her eyes and cart the person off to jail. If the child is found to be lying that should be dealt with immediately. When CPS is out there making young adult parents feel like they are neglecting children for having a four-year-old pick up their own toys and lies are flying in the courtroom between the Prosecuter, Judge, and CPS sure like a drama movie...why not, we all want our taxes going to these social programs. We all want to watch people being used especially children and, by the way, in this county the Judge doesn't want to get caught as parents are threatened for having moral support and made to feel incompetent if anyone goes into the courtroom out of concern for the children and what is truly going on - in other words, witnesses to these so-called social programs. The parents are told thru the entire process to get rid of people so that they won't get caught processing lies that appear to validate legal kidnapping and exploitation of federal funds which we the people pay for. That is not the actions of conservative government if there is such a thing anymore.

um Dukefenton..try NZ as a better place to raise your kids.

Although unicef ranked us low when it came to child safety and a number of other ranks,we are clearly better then the US and UK.
otherwise they would have mentioned us.

Did it occur to you that the UNICEF 'report' may have been the product of a bunch of political hacks intent on bashing the US and UK for reasons that have *NOTHING* to do with child welfare? Find me one - *JUST ONE* - nation south of the Mexican border where children are better off than they are in the US. There aren't any. The fact that you would accept and repeat this BULLSH*T without even bothering to think about its plausibility says volumes about your own agenda.
