Yes.

Assuming you mean programming of computers. I meet very few women in certain IT functions, especially the ones that require single tasking (such as programming). In areas that require multi-tasking such as project management, there are more women present, and generally speaking they are much better at handling a portfolio of work than their male counterparts.

This is not to say that women can't program, just that it's male dominated and you know what happens when you get a gang of blokes together - even if they ARE nerds!

IF the pay is still good then you can be sure that it is more then 70% or better men. As the women come into a field the pay negotiations change and the pay scale does drop. As more men go into a field that was primarily women you will find the pay scale improving. Not being sarcastic. Simple fact, just the way it is and in some cases I can say I disagree with this so called injustice. I do believe that pay should be equal but I also believe quality of works should also be equal. And that is not always the case. Some jobs are better done by women and some jobs are better done by men. With some exception, of course.

Where I work, there is only 1 male programmer to 3 female programmers.

Apparently not. It's increasingly becoming a popular career choice for women. I know several women who do this, and met them entirely by chance. I'm certain you can find statistics on the net really easily: look at information supplied by government and universities.

There are a LOT more women in programming than there used to be.

Still, it's tilts heavily to the male side, but not like it once was. I don't know the stats, but from personal observation, it used to be 99.99% male, now it's about 65% to 75% male.

Odd you should ask.

My daughter is getting her Masters in it.

She loves it.

But she is a nerd girl and proud of it!

There are no girls in her classes almost

btw her scholarship was intended for young women of limited means to study computer sciences to open the field to more women.

She makes math jokes

She is drop dead gorgeous

I think it is because up until now it has been a guy dominated business. That is changing with the times.

Women will always be in a minority, in most aspects of Computer Science. Reason: It takes brains and discipline of which most women have little.

Only in the far future, when most of the computer science problems have been solved and no new technology is forthcoming, will attractive women with expensive earrings be needed to sell the equipment.
