Probably the fact that once we get one step ahead, the road forks into a million different ways. Answers lead to more questions which lead to more answers ad infinitum.

The fact that it is not being taught adequately to non-scientists, and as a result religious nuts and political opportunists use this public ignorance for their own short-sighted 'advantage' - and everyone else's detriment.
