It's kinda simple and kinda not.
First: It's not a flashy well known school. If you think about the teams that make the Top 25, they are pretty well known. I have to admit, that up until the 2004, I hadn't heard of Boise State.
Second: The BCS is a complete sham. There are so many reasons why it isn't fair and will never be fair. The first being David Frohnmayer. The Chairman of the BCS committee, is said to have long ties to the media and public relations firms. He is well known for his stance AGAINST a playoff type of series in College. Which is a huge problem for a school like Boise State, because you could win. So if his ties to the PR industry are that deep, do you really think that he would want to see Boise State win? Nope! For him it's all about the Sponsors and their $$$.
Personally, I am against this Bowl Crap. There are way too many bowl games, way too many sponsors and WAY too many opinions. I think they should make it a true playoff series, that way it would prepare the players for what it's like in the NFL.
Unfortunately, not everyone sees it this way because they are too focused on making money for the schools that already make all the money. It's a vicious circle and it's not going to change anytime soon.

It's not that they're a bad team. It's that they run up these good records against CRAP competition both in and out of conference! The Oklahoma game should be a wake up call that Boise State is finally capable of playing with anyone with the right talent/coaching in place in a given year. If they play a little bit better non conference competition and win a couple of those games, they'd get as much or more respect at 11-1 or 10-2 as they would at 12-0 against the usual schedule. They still might not be considered for a title, but 11-1 with a non conference that involves at least 2 top 25 teams would give them some credit IF they won at least 2 of those games.

Yes they are in a mid-major but so what. They have trouble getting the BIG BOYS to play. If a major team loss to them it looks bad. Big Teams want to play most of there games at home and will not enter in a home and away contract. NCAA schools always try to make the bowls. They will schedule a few easy teams on there schedule before league play starts. Getting 6 wins to be bowl eligible is big $. Major teams usually have 1-2 game dates outside the league schedule.

Boise State needs to pay teams to come play them if they want respect, they need a harder schedule and until they do that I won't consider them anything more than a fluke and/or a poor team with a poor schedule

Hey Urban Myers got credit for the Utes success but the team didn't. Mid-Major teams never get credit.

No, it can't be a fluke, it just means that they aren't confident in their program to play top opponents. They have one win against top opponents in the last 4 years.... not impressed.

Until they start playing 3 or 4 top ranked teams every year (and win) they'll stay a good second level team and that's it.

The major teams are scared to face them. We know they're really good, but we don't know how good beacuse they can't get big conference opponents to schedule them.

Yeah the bowl game was pretty thrilling and all but it comes down to the strength of your schedule. Besides Oklahoma who did they play that was ranked? It wasn't a mistake they won all those games but they didn't play anyone that great.
