where they have the clit circumsized just as they do , for men, i've heard about it. just curious to know why is that done?

I'm a Muslim and female gential mutilation and female circumcision is against Islam. That is done in African countries where there are non Muslims. Only Northern Africa are Muslim countries. That's more of a cultural practice. It has nothing to do with Islam at all. The same thing with honor killings. That is against Islam and is also a cultural practice.

There are many forms of female circumcision, the vast majority of which are horrible forms of genital mutilation.
There are two forms which are by no means common and may be seen differently and I think you are referring to one of them.
One is a pinprick to draw a drop of blood - more a symbolic action.
The other is actually what you describe - the foreskin of the clitoris is removed just like the foreskin of a male's penis is removed. From memory this is quite an uncommon pratice and is confined to some Sunni women in the Middle East.

Err...it's not at all "just as they do for men" - not even remotely so. There are about 3 'styles' of female circucumsision, varying in bruality/radicality, pain suffered by the woman, and risk to life through bloodloss or infection. You are sure to find plenty of disturbing information about this ongoing practice on the net.

usually it's done more as a clitorendectomy, and sometimes they sew the vaginal opening shut--which the future husband gets to rip open on the wedding day.
it's a horrible thing to do to a child.
