GUT and the Big Bang are related because at some point during the big bang, the four forces were combined. This implies that they should all still be connected in some way. If we could descibe how they were connected, we would have our unification theory.

Grand unification theory is a theory that's yet-to-be devised. It would hypothetically join relativistic physics with quantum mechanics in a way that accurately can describe and predict the universe. If not with relativity & quantum mechanics, then by some other means of describing the universe with a unified theory.
The big bang theory is simply a theory to describe the beginning of spacetime and matter.
