definitely go with ashes. sacrament is crap. give Burn the Priest a listen to. but if you're looking for something heavy but not that far away from l.o.g. you should try some Kataklysm or All Shall Perish. (that should lead to a nice heavy future of metal for you)

Ashes underlies a common theme that connects to the war in Iraq. Ashes is a much more political album. It criticises the war. Mainly based on the idea of the sin Wrath.

Sacrament has to do with personal struggle and people who are specifically targeted for acting in the sin greed or gluttony. You can tell from the album cover that the album covers the idea of gluttony because of the unfinished food and, what can be assumed as, an unempty goblet. The songs use less deep analogies in the lyrics than that of Ashes.

However, technically both albums are terrific IE riffs and drums. Ashes is a better produced album, the musical clarity is second to none. Next to Toxicity one of my favourite albums production wise. (especially following As the palaces burn, that(production wise) sounded like crap.)

Ashes has stronger songs as well. While Sacrament has good songs like Pathetic, Blackened the cursed sun, Walk with me in Hell, Redneck, and Beating on Death's door; Every song on Ashes is strong enough to be a stand alone single.

Both albums have there strengths and weaknesses; overall, Ashes is stronger because of it's overall production. I like the sound because it returns to the New American Gospel style of acoustic clarity.

I hope this helped and that I wasn't to vague with my answer. If it is, let me know and I'll try to elaborate further.

Ashes of the Wake is better, but Sacrament has Walk With Me In Hell and Descending.

Ashes of the Wake without a doubt.
