My friend told me that in the art world people only accect paintings and nothing esle, which i think is sad and stupid because that would be a problem for me.

All my life i developed my art style around drawing with pencil , color pencil and oil pastils. you see my artistic style is all about details and drawing with pencil is the best type of art style to use when you want to make complex details to make your objects in your drawing look better, but in painting i can't realy do that because painting is to messy and slopy. so is what my friend saying is true?

also can any body tell me step by step on how to make a portfolio for going to college or to get a scholarship, and is it possible to become a rich artist? what does it take to become a rish artist?

Drawing is just as artistically valid as any other art form. If you're passionate about drawing, then you should pursue it. However, your first consideration shouldn't be the money. Art is about creating something that evokes emotion in the viewer. You should create because it's powerful and you want to put those thoughts and feelings out there for people to see and feel for themselves. There are careers that would allow you to use art skills(such as graphic design, etc), but regardless of what career you find you should pursue art if it's something you really love.

When I went to art school, I took a class instructed by a visiting and successful artist by the name of Susan Hauptman. Her work is essentially life size self-portraiture that is done in "drawing" media (graphite charcoal, etc.). She invests a large amount of time in each drawing (some taking up to a year to complete). I'll included a link to an image of a drawing she completed while teaching at the university I attended in the 'sources'.

There is a market for all types of artwork. Painting just being the largest and most well known category.

I've also noticed that this isn't your first question relating to "rich artists".

If this is what you are hung up on (becoming one), you're thinking about the wrong things. 'Making a living' is surely part of it if you decide to make a career of it, but there is no sure way of becoming a "rich artist" short of having your rich friends and aquaintances buy your artwork. If there was an easy or simple answer to that question everyone would be doing it. There is no formula, and be wary of anyone who tells you there is.

there are plenty of websites out there which tell you how to make a portfolio. The important thing there is that each school may have somewhat different requirement. So look up the requirements at the schools website. If you can't figure out how to find this information by yourself you are unlikely to get ever rich or famous. One thing you have to do for being even moderately successful is to put a ton of work and drive and initiative in whatever you want to do. If you are not willing to do this, there are plenty of other people who will - so they will be better than you and they will get the scholarships.

And no, it's not true that only painting is an accepted art form. Have you ever been in an art museum? If not you should go!

If making money in life is your main motivation I am afraid it's unlikely you will have a lot of fun doing art. Fun things are usually things which carry their own reward in them, as soon as you only think of their potential monetary reward, it takes the fun out of it and becomes work.

You don't have to be dead any more there are plenty of successful painters around. There are different markets in the painting world, usually the most successful artists developed a distinct style or concept that they developed over time. To sell work you have to have a good dealer that has the ear of a lot of collectors. I think there are easier ways to make money but if it's your passion don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. I recommend going and visiting a lot of galleries, see what is happening in the scene then think about how your work can fill a gap or encapsulate a feeling out there that isn't being addressed. good luck!

if you go into art for the money all you end up making is things people want, pop things that everyone else is making and why would anyone pay a lot of money for something that is a dime a dozen?
if you're already thinking about money I'd venture to say you're not a real artist but someone who can draw. being able to draw is different than been an artist. Britney spears can sing but she is not an artist.
but on the side of art i say go for it, draw pop things and leave the real art to real artist. there's already too many people who call themselves artist taking up the time of galleries when theres good people getting overlooked.

Edgar Degas' pastels sold in auctions for over $3 million each
however he never saw any of this money... I do not think like most wise people who responded to you, he thought about becoming rich. He just wanted to CREATE art and enjoyed
the process. Most people who become rich do not set out
with this in mind. They have an original idea, stick to it
and work hard. Naturally a little luck helps.
It is all up to you, I can only wish you good luck!
