Never will.
Expectation in any sport will always mean that there is someone who isn't happy.
Obviously if you have to watch the quality or rather lack of quality that came over in the last game against Spain, then there will be moaning. Where people can see that the team are trying then that is slightly different.
In my opinion there should have been a clean sweep when Sven went, and start a fresh.

No England manager will ever have 100% backing from the supporters. 100% backing would mean a "no doubt" feeling amongst supporters by definition this is impossible for any human being. Steve MacClaren must understand is that to qualify for Euro 2008 is not enough. The minimum requirement of any England team is to reach the quareter finals of a major tournament, and quite frankly I don't see that happening next year even with the wealth of talent at his disposal he has not been able to break up the cliques that exist in the team. This was once again exposed at Joey Barton's inability to fit in and Kevin Nolan once again being passed over for an England call up.

I think an England manager could have the 100% backing of the supporters. I don't think an England manager would ever have the 100% backing of the Press though. As far as I'm concerned, that's where the problem lies. Because the minute someone is the manager, the press behave like vultures, waiting for him or her to put a foot wrong. No one could work under those pressure's and do a perfect job!

This is something impossible which can never happen to any country around the world.
A coach gets that sort of support when he's delivering results or else some will hate him and others won't... Look at the example of Mourinho who's still delivering result but there are some other fans trying to think twice.
Thanx!

Yes, when the England football manager won the World Cup in 1966. But I doubt it will ever happen again, especially when the clueless FA hire some mercenary managers or managers who have no positive credentials.

not being an Englishman i dont understand the mentality surrounding your national team the press hypes the games up to a horrendous level so when your team looses its devastating you need a manager who is going to tell the press to basically sod off and let him do his job.....before any major tournament the team should be taken to an undisclosed area to complete its preparations in peace not have the paparazzi all over the place then maybe your fans will be 100% behind your team mclaren is the wrong choice for you he is not mean enough to do this you should employ somebody who is all blood and guts and not be afraid of the press or the enlish football association

No way. There's no group of people more fickle than football fans. The only 2 managers who've had the fans behind them all through the job are Sir Alex of Man Utd. & Alan Curbishley when he was at Charlton. But those are two special cases.

EVEN IF THE FANS HAD A REFERENDUM AND PICKED HIM AND THE TEAM, THEY WOULD STILL NOT BE HAPPY.
they could win the world cup and some journalist would find out a about an indiscretion 20 years previous, the situation has gone on for too long and become acceptable behaviour.
slagging off the manager has become part of the ugly game.
