So today I had an interview, personally I think it went well....she told me herself that she thought I was a very good candidate and did very well at the testing. However, she notified me it is company policy to contact a previous employer for reference. But she did go into full detail about the job and was even telling me when the trainer would be back to see when I could start. I know that a previous employer is only supposed to give dates you worked....but if they give more information and tell them I was fired I will no longer be considered. Please help...do you think I will get the job from the way she talked to me today?

you have the job in the bag!
if the x-employer tells more than dates, they are liable for law suit!!!
they can be sneaky and ask would you rehire this person?
and the really can't ask that either!!

you have the job, and I always leave an interview with a handshake, looking them straight in the eye, and ask, "and we will speak again tuesday?" that puts the interviewer on the spot to say yes, i will call you either way on tues, or what day you mention...
or I leave it at *I hope to be hearing from you very soon!!
I look forward to our next conversation!

Based on what you say your prospective employer sounds interested in hiring you. (This does NOT mean she's uninterested in other candidates.)

As for your previous employer who fired you being contacted. He's probably not going to say you were fired, but even if he did it would be very difficult to prove that.

Now, are the previous employers allowed to say only start/end date, and the job title? Yes and no. That would be their ideal practice, but they are ALWAYS asked more questions than that by your potential employers. I was once told that I've been misinformed by a HR manager when I was believing what you are believing.

I think what you should have done is not put down this employer who fired you on the resume unless the job you had applied for is a government job where you can hide nothing.

They can't turn you down just because you've been fired. If you qualify and are the best candidate, not hiring you because you got fired could be discrimination. It all depends WHY you got fired, but I still don't think it should matter. if she's telling you about a trainer and when you can start it sure sounds like you got the job!

I never really knew they actually called previous employers. haha.

GOOD LUCK THOUGH! *crosses fingers*

if they talk to your previous employer, they are not allowed to tell anyone you were fired, but they are allowed to say weather they would ever hire you again. And if your previous one says no. it will not look good. unless you can get them to call another previous employer that was happy with your work. or else be honest up front and tell them why you were fired and what you intend to do so that it wont happen again. they might take a chance on you. good luck

No false hopes.

Did they interview anybody else for the position?
Somebody else might be better qualifed than you are.

>>even telling me when the trainer would be back to see when I >>could start.
Make sure if they don't call you that you call them back.
You should have asked for a date and time when they would call you.

Send some follow up "Thank you" letters.
"I really enjoyed the interview. I look forward to working... etc"
