Is not the central govt responsible to implement a common minimum agenda in all schools all over the country?

Today we are in a crucial juncture where we realise the need to have value based education with emphasis on character development ,enhancement of the mental and spiritual strength of students at an early age to fight vanities like terrorism , AIDS etc.It is the responsibility of the government to implement a common minimum program in all educational institutions across the country.Many schools are oriented towards polishing children for getting marks only which is not in the interest of the nation.Hence should not the govt. implement a CMP in all schools?

You mean in India? Makes sense to me. The whole country will benefit from spiritual and moral values being #1 in schools. Emphasis on character development first and academic stuff only second.

If you're referring to the United States, we, as the people of the country, have left education up to the states. We also fund the schools through local taxes. Until the gov't starts putting more money into schools and closing the gap between the average cost of education one student from one district to the next, then the Federal gov't needs to stay out of the situation.

ETS or Eduacational Testing Service, is the predominate testing service in the country and they pretty much make up the standardized tests our children take. The make them all, so they're all similar. So there is already somewhat of a national achievement test for all students.

Are you referring to the United States? Because, in the US education is left to the states. The Federal Gov't does participate to a large degree but the programs are state mandated. As far as "character development", I am not looking to my government or my children's schools to develop the character of my children. I can handle that on my own.
