Those days are over of buying a dozen roses that die in a day for $75.00. I am not cheap by any means, but come on now. I think a romantic walk in the snow beats any stupid flowers, candy, etc.......
People had better start waking up and realizing that material things are worthless a day later. People need to respect one another all the time not just one day a year and splurge to make it all better, how dumb.
Who is the dummy that invented this day?? I'd like to ask him for his checkbook to see if he spent any money.
was it that little fat guy cupid?

I agree with you and kindly asked my husband not to buy anything today.
Sometimes people go to extremes to show how much they care and love the other person and loose the essence of small things like a romantic dinner prepared from both, with wine and soft music, a good romantic movie while sitting and cuddling on the couch.

This day has been invented so flower shops and chocolate companies become richer.

This is a day to show people that they mean something to you and that you appreciate them being in your life. Love is a wonderful thing and its a day to celebrate love and NOT to 'BUY' material things that wilt in a day, or that make you fat.... I don't know why people think the only way to 'show' love is through tangible material things. Thats so sad. Thats one of the reasons people start hating love and relationships because majority of the people out there are just trying to do cliche things and buy and show love through material possessions. People really need to stop and think about what they are doing and change they way they think. People do spend way to much money on stupid things, this is a day to celebrate "feelings" not to show off what someone bought you or how much money you spent on another person.
This day SHOULD be celebrated... but CORRECTLY!
A nice home-made dinner, walk on the beach under the stats, a sweet note or voice mail....and oh yes, A card!!! i like cards, because all they do is say how you feel and thats all that matters.

Valentines day was invented for the guys who couldn't come up with romantic gestures on their own. Now at least 4 times a year (christmas, valentines, birthday, and sweetest day) even the girls with the studpidest men should get something even if it's not an expense gift. It's really just a commercial holiday.

The members of the American Florists Industry Association LOVE Valentines Day - it's their busiest day of the year!

They take flowers grown by sweatshop labor in Colombia and China, airfreight them to America and make you pay through the nose - or your partner will pout and cry and say "you don't really love me!".

And the florists laugh all the way to the bank!!!!

I would call your dad and ask him what to do.. i know my dad has all the jewelry tips in the world. He can look at a diamond and tell if it is perfect enough for someone or not. The size, and clarity is very important. I would look up online ring tips. I know that a good ring is around 2-4 grand easily. But, i have noticed with all my friends that theirs cost around that price range and they are beautiful. I would be more Leary of the price and size than anything. Good luck and congrats!

It's all in the surprise.... so, if a walk is special for both of you, than cool. For others it's something else.... even one single rose any other day than valentine (unexpected) makes some woman happy. It's not the amount, frequency or type of present.

Valentine is very commercial, I agree

i know you should let the person know everyday how you feel not just on valentines day. and i would rather have like a dinner made, chores done , or something nice that dont caost money . i get my 7 & 8 yr old girls something cause they are little, and they make me a card out of love not money. i see it as another day nothing special.

I'm sure the dummy who invented v-day is/was related to "FTD" lol.

We're not spending money in our house. How dorky.
