LOL. It does seem like someone in the front office likes to smoke weed out there in San Diego. 14-2 isn't good enough?

I think that the general manager A.J. Smith is an ego-maniac and wants to run the team by himself, he wants to put HIS stamp on it and get all the credit for building it. Who cares if he and Schottenheimer didn't get along, Marty is a great coach. Don't believe all the garbage you hear about Schottenheimer just being good enough to get to the playoffs but losing. Was it his fault that the Chargers' defensive back fumbled the football after intercepting it, the play that would have iced the game for the Chargers? No it wasn't. He has had bad luck, it's not his fault that the Chargers lost. Was it his fault Earnest Byner fumbled at the goal line against Denver in '88? No it wasn't. You can't blame Schottenheimer for those mistakes. Playoff games are close, and those plays lost the game, not his coaching.
Schottenheimer is a great coach who has suffered some bad breaks, and you sometimes need breaks to win. If not for the "tuck rule", the Patriots don't win their first Super Bowl. That was a break for them 5 years ago, and Marty hasn't gotten any.
Firing Marty Schottenheimer was a huge mistake, and I think people are going to see A.J. Smith for the selfish, controlling person he is. He will hire his own puppet, I mean, coach within a week.

The Chargers were in their first playoff game. They were in a grinding field position battle with the Patriots. Good punts had the Pats pinned within their own 20. They would punt and the Chargers would get the ball at mid field. They made some progress on one set, but a penalty pinned them back for a 4th and 11. Now, cue up Atom Heart Mother, what does Marty do, another smart safe punt? No, he goes for it on 4th and 11 in the first quarter of a scoreless tie. Careful with that axe, Eugene. And for that A.J. Smith got to play, One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces.
You did bring up Pink Floyd.

Tell me about it and the sad thing about it is the chances of them finding somebody better than Marty that can run a scheme centered around LT at this point in the offseason is slim to none.
Oh and Alexleex7, they said Dungy couldn't win the big one. It even got him fired from Tampa Bay. Gruden came in and won with Dungy's players (and Cover 2 scheme)...but has been God awful ever since (trust me I'm a Bucs fan, so I know). We can all see how that one worked out for them.
So I'm willing to bet that the Chargers will be missing Marty this time next year because they'll be lucky to have a winning season without him and his coordinators.

So all people who like Pink Floyd are high? Hmmm...
At any rate, I live in KC and it is a fact that Marty is hard to get along with and has been known to push buttons. He typically gets himself ran out of town in the end...
He was 13-3 a couple times before getting run in KC.

With Cam Cameron gone, Wade Phillips gone, what was Shottenheimer left with? THEY are the one's who are responsible for the team's success. Remember "Martyball"???Bottom line is that Shottenheimer is great at getting teams to the playoffs THEN LOSING! Let's not forget that his playoff record is now 5-14! So I don't see him getting fired as a bad thing. And in 4-5 weeks when the Chargers announce that Jimmy Johnson or Bill Cowher as the new head coach, I'm sure you'll dry your eyes pretty quick!

Let me put it this way..Marty wont take them to the Super Bowl because the man is just unlucky..he's a good coach but not a winner so whoever AJ Smith adn Spanos hire next must take them to a Super Bowl or it will look pretty bad
