I mean come on now, it's kind of old. All this day does is make businesses more money cause the greedy pigs charge you up the wazoo for the same stupid flowers you bought a day ago, and they charge double in restaurants, what a Joke !
If someone really loves you, they treat you good all the time, this day is just like all the other holidays, nothing but money making materialism, and it's just plain Stupid !
Other than that, I kind of like Wednesdays.

Valentines Day is an old pagan holiday that the Catholic Church made a feast day for a couple of Italian priests who got crucified in the early days of Christianity.
But the Germanic pagans of Northern Europe used to have February 14 as a sex festival and the British never forgot that - so they made it a holiday for lovers to reaffirm their love.
Here in America, florists and candy manufacturers took the sweet English country custom of hand made gifts and perverted it into systematic propaganda that you HAD to buy expensive store brought gifts for your partner or you didn't really love them.
Today Valentines Day is a $ 13 billion dollar industry in America that generates profits for restaurant owners, pharmacies, jewelry stores, lingere stores, candy shops, greeting card stores, and for the manufacturers of greeting cards, jewelry, lingere, chocolate, condoms and erectile disfunction drugs.
Love ain't got a damned thing to do with it - it's all about the benjamins!!!

I'm in a LDR, and I am just happy for a phone call. I think the materialistic women are hooked on what they "should" get. I just want a call...like at Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. He can show me he loves me by being attentive when he's with me. Valentine's Day really makes the people who are alone and don't have a partner feel like crap, and a lot of men feel horrible pressure to spend. It sucks!

In case you people don't know why you celebrate Valentines day, here it is with a brief history about it. Good question too!
History of Valentines day:
St. Valentine the many
February 14 was traditionally dedicated to two ancient martyrs named Valentine. They are listed in early martyrologies under the date of February 14, which is likely the date of their deaths. There is a third St. Valentine from Africa who was also martyred on February 14, but he did not get a saint's day. Very little historically accurate information exists on any of these Valentines. The Valentines honored on February 14 are:
Valentine of Rome (Valentinus presb. m. Romae): a priest in Rome who suffered martyrdom about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. His relics are at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome. and at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland. According to a biography of Saint Valentine by Robert Sabuda, the priest was also a doctor who would treat patients even if they could not pay him. It is said his miracle was curing a difficult case of blindness in a young girl.
Valentine of Terni (Valentinus ep. Interamnensis m. Romae): He became bishop of Interamna (modern Terni) about AD 197 and is said to have been killed during the persecution of Emperor Aurelian. He is also buried on the Via Flaminia, but in a different location than Valentine of Rome. His relics are at the Basilica of Saint Valentine in Terni (Basilica di San Valentino).

It had to be a woman that was not getting enough attention from her husband, so she came up with it to get more presents since Christmas is too far from her birthday.

I agree with you a 100 percent. I have not purchased a V-Day gift in 20 years. I just won't do it. If you have a problem with it you can just move alone.
