I am not cold hearted or anything. I have a boyfriend who I love dearly. I'm a naturally sweet person, but I just don't view valentine's day the way "romantic" girls do. I would like to classy myself as a "romantic-realist". I like dreams to be obtainable and actions to have purpose. I know that the purpose of valentine's day is to show your love to someone else, but isn't it better to show your love all the time? I feel kind of bad because my boyfriend is making a bigger deal out of this than I am. He is afraid to disappoint me but the truth is I don't have any expectations. He understands but would like the day to be special. I love special days but it seems like this day on a calendar is an excuse to recieve flowers/candy and have more sex.

Well that is how you look at it, but to some people it is really important casue they just want the person to know that they do love them, and on this speical day they will tell them twice as hard. You know not all peoople are out for the flowers, candy and to have more sex, some are actually there to be with the other , and to declare their ever dying love. Without expecting anything from the other one for it.

Well if you don't enjoy, being treated like a sweetheart, then either break up, or get married. because it's sounds like you feel guilty, for being with someone your not married to,which isn't such a bad thing at least, it shows you have a conscience, and you would be able to see if he loves you for you,or for the sex you been giving him. without buying the cow, sorry honey I kinda picked up on something in your words, but I don't believe dignity is a gray area, and liven up to someone else's expectations has it's own draw backs mostly on you, lets face it, it's not the flowers or the candy that you don't get about Valentine's day, it's wondering if he'll ever get around to marring you,.are at least asking you. good luck on that !

I look at it as a garentee day to spend time with your man and they know the date so they cannot make excuses for not being on time so If your man likes Valentines day dont be selfish just make it special for him !

Any holidays are used so that people will buy more, more, and more stuff they don't need. That's the only reason. So that businesses will prosper.
