Zachary Taylor 1848 Whig party was the last elected President not affilliated with our current principal parties. The first Republican, Democratic, or Republican-Democratic candidate was Thomas Jefferson in 1800.

1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1920 in the USA, Eugene V. Debs of the Socialist Party of America wasn't elected president, but he might as well have been. Nearly all that party's policies have come to fruition since. To the best of my knowledge, his was the strongest 3rd party candidate showing.

I believe it was Andrew Jackson who ran in the National Union Party, but was formerly a Democrat.

There have always been two or more political parities in presidential campaigns.
Only since Lincoln has pretty much settled down to Republican and Democrats.
