Just because they are. Do you know that the actual definition of the word gay is "happy, full of joy"? I'm assuming that you are talking about the slang word "gay" which means homosexual and I'm sure I'm right. Maybe the better question from you would be, "Why am I, a guy, thinking about the similarity between guy/gay at 11pm the night before Valentines Day? If you would have posed the question that way instead people would actually give a crap about your question. Just a suggestion..........

Many words are spelt similarly with very different meanings. "Goy" also fits into this set.

"Guy" as a slang word for man started in the USA but it comes from Guy Fawkes, the gunpowder plotter who was hanged, drawn and quartered for attempting to blow up James I in parliament. Guys are burnt in effigy in the UK on November 5th and from the effigy came the slang term for men. This has been extended to include women these days.

"Gay" has had many meanings in its life including cheerful and merry. In the early 19th century a gay woman was a prostitute and a gay house a brothel. By the late 19th century it took the meaning of homosexual and has had that meaning along with all its others for over 100 years. It became more widespread in the 1960s and 1970s as gay men fought for equal rights. They are still fighting.

Because when words were invented, they were having a weak week. The block was black and whether they went out or not, the weather was like a saw.
