I had sex with my boyfriend on Feb. 4, and afterwards we found out that the condom broke. We immediately went to the pharmacy and bought Plan B--I took the first pill within an hour to an hour and a half of having sex. I took the next pill exactly 12 hours later, just like it said. My period was due "sometime" that week--but it's pretty irregular. I thought I started my period yesterday, the 12th, but it lasted less than a day. It was fairly heavy bleeding--but not as heavy as it usually is on the first day of my period. Also, I've been having cramps--even after the blood flow stopped. I'm not sure if this is my period, a side effect of Plan B, or both (Plan B causing a very short period). I've taken a pregnancy test and it came back negative. Could I still be pregnant, even after taking a test, not to mention taking the pills within an hour of the condom breaking? Also, how effective are HPTs--should I trust the results?

HPTs are usually very accurate. key word usually they can be wrong sometimes. if you start bleeding you are having your period regardless of how messed up or weird it is. the lining in your uterus has shed and come out, no baby can be grown when there is nothing to grow it on. Plan B seriously messes your hormones up and usually annihalates any chance of you getting pregnant, sometimes it doesnt work in some ppl but from what you have said it sounds like it did its job. plus 8 days later should be a fairly accurate pregnancy test result. btw if you are not on hormone birth control, i would get on it, it will help with your irregular period and plus you wont have to worry if the condom breaks next time.

Considering the time frame of having sex and taking the pill, your chances of being pregnant are slim.

Plan B has a usual effect of cramps, light period or spotting.
You also have to remember that while you have been stressing out about this, your body has been feeling the stress which can cause it to act in not so normal ways. Weather can aslo affect your period and sometimes your body can give off symptoms of being pregnant when you really arent.

I'd say not to worry about it to much, take another test if you are still scared, but more than likely you've just stressed out your body a little to much lately.

No. you aren't actually pregnant when you take it. It prevents you from getting pregnant. There are several possible side effects, so you should check out the Plan B website. But taking the pill without pregnancy is exactly what it's for.

I'd be willing to guess you're not preggers. Take another pregnancy test. If it still comes back negative, consider yourself not pregnant.

Relax. it is a bad effect of Plan B. It a high dose hormone and it can disturb your bleeding.

Plan B notoriously screws up your period. If you had a period, you're not pregnant.
