I have the cylinder completely removed, but am having problems with removing the piston from the push rod, I have removed the pins on each side. Now what do I do from there, I dont want to hurt the rod bearings, so I thought I'd ask before I force it out.

If the piston pin is stuck in the piston, DO NOT try to hit it out with a hammer. There's a good chance of bending the connecting rod. Use a wrist pin puller.

You should tap it out with a hammer. The steel wrist pin is usually a tight fit inside the aluminum piston. Once it gets moving, it should break free. Be carefull that you dont push the connecting rod side ways. If you damage the connecting rod, you may have to buy it as a whole crank/rod assembly. (~$350 for a 02 YZ250).

If its on a 2 stroke dirtbike, watch out for that first answer. You wont find screws on the connecting rod. They utilize all of their air space. You usually need a 10ton press to split the crankshaft halves apart to remove the connecting rod.

Its a connecting rod and you have circlips on the ends of the piston pin. Frequently they form small burrs in piston which causes pin to stick. You could try de-burring with a sharp knife. Be careful not to bend rod if you have to tap it out.

pistons are not connected to push rods.Push rods operate the lift on valves.If you mean connecting rod then you take the clips out of the ends and tap the wrist pin out with a brass rod and a mallet,Good luck.

Some piston to rod pins are interference fit requiring a slow
but strong force (using mechanical or hydraulic press) to push
the pin out of the piston. I would consult expert advice or tech.

purchase are the first and most valuable investment in a new
(different) vehicle I buy. For the $15.-$22. the manual costs
it can save so much more (and add professional knowledge)

take a rag or something similar to protect the pistons from getting scratched by the cylinder studs , remove wristpins , wrap rag around studs or piston then you can use a medium extension 3/8 drive .. start tapping until wristpin comes out far enough to clear rod then remove piston..

Same as you do on any engine.. remove the 2 bolts on the bottom of the rod on the crank shaft first.. removing the piston itsself comes later.. remove the clip ringswith special piars made just for that and the punch out the pin with a drift... or a hydrolic press and a drift..

Replace the rod/crank berings they are increadibly cheap..... you went this far... its silly not to.. just dont forget to mic em right..

This process isnt any different on a 2 cycle than it is on a 4 cycle

Generally what you can do is get a wood dowel.

Take the clips off the wrist pins.....take a mallet and tap the wrist pins out using the wooden dowel. The pins should come out pretty easy. Then remove the pistons.

call advanced or auto zone!!! or a parts store in the morning or night depending what time it is there!!! just so u dont mess it up. It should come right off though after u take the pins off?
