it is the break between one seasons' taping and the next.

A hiatus is simply a break, usually between seasons, but could be mid-season as well (like a Christmas break). It has nothing to do with a show being cancelled, recast, or rewritten.

the show is on a break, sometimes to be recast or the script is being reworked. A lot of times they throw away the whole original thing and start over with everything new .\
