Isn't that what's so great about the USA? Anyone can sue anyone else for any reason. Can he sue you? Absolutely. Will he win? Not a chance, based on what you've said here. Even if you said you would definitely take the job and passed their physical, nothing would keep you from quitting the minute you walked in the door except a contract.

If you have never verbally stated you agreed to accept the offer, then they have no recourse and cant expect any compensation from you.
Even if you do sign papers, you can always give your 2 week notice your first day on the job, unless the contract was for a longer period of time.
They can say whatever they want using pressure tactics to scare you. Some people fold under that kind of pressure.
It's nothing to worry about.
I am not totally sure what the intperpetation of "interest" can mean. It doesn't sound like anything binding, like Yes or No.
They could have always hired somebody while you were trying to get things in order and then, you would then be screwed.

I don't think so...not unless you signed some sort of contract. Employers often make people wait for a month before deciding and if we can't sue them, they shouldn't be allowed to sue us!

The proper thing is to get back to them asap, when you decided you were not going to take it,was the time to tell them thanks, but you have had a better offer, and hope you find what you looking for....
Thats rude,and employers don't forget!

Technically, yes, as you have just entered a verbal contract, which, while hard to prove, is still enforcable in US Courts.
Now, they probably won't sue you, as this would be an even larger hassle, and like I said, it is difficult to enforce a verbal contract.
Rest easy on this one!

I'm sure they could try suing you, but I don't think they'd make it very far. You said yourself you never agreed to accept the job offer and you signed nothing. So, as far as I see it, you are under no legal obligation to take the job or not.

They cannot sue you. It doesn't matter if you have told them that you WOULD take the job.

They probably can unless you can prove that you had a good reason for leaving them hanging so long.
