how pointless is valentines day?

Question

1) this is a day that makes single people feel depressed or desprate
2) most guys hate it
3) many people waste there money no this holiday
4) its called a holiday but school is never called off

I just hate the holiday but thats how I see it because im single

Loneliness has nothing to do with making a point based on personal opinion and your views about this and guess what?: I agree 100 percent with you.
I cannot understand how all these companies make money on one day when couples feel the need to communicate in a financial fashion. I ws thumbed down for this once before but that doesn't matter to me... I dislike the holiday because it is not practical for me- I see no sense in it. I think couples should love everyday, not just use ONE day to call claim for all the issues and personal disagreements. I'd rather be curled up at home, watching a funny movie and having a soda then getting flowers that die the next day. I am 35 and with my past experience, I say nay to that day. Sorry for the public ramble and thank you for listening to my words.

guys who hate this day are those who are materialistic because they think of how expensive celebrating this day will be. also because some girlfriends are also demanding on expensive gifts than cheap but romantic ways to celebrate the occasion.
actually if a couple really loves each other, then valentine's day need not be costly for both(more on the guy part) of them
its a holiday but not an official holiday like christmas. holidays can be working and non working holidays. not all holidays need to have a day off (actually in my place, feb 14 is a non working holiday)

Now that i got that out of my system, time to answer your question:
I don't really think Valentine's day is pointless because the original thing was meant to be love for all: family, friends, acquaintances and people who walk up to your house holding checks for large sums of money. (The IRS and its agents are exempt from this category). So focus on that. Most guys don't hate it, the hate the responsibility which others put on them when the time of year comes around.

I agree with you. I am single and I can't stand Valentine's Day.
Most of my friends in relationships don't like it either because it's just a bogus holiday meant to put pressure on couples to do something special.

It is not pointless to do a random act of kindness. You don't have to spend money. You could just send an email or note to a friend or your mother to tell them how much they mean to you. It is not just a day for lovers.

That is how the marketting works in our minds. WHo loved..who died...why we are spending our money ( costly ) to show our expression towards the loved one.
