I hate it, everyone I know hates it. I mean, Calgary plays Colorado 3 times in a row, If that was an actual rivalry I could MAYBE overlook it. But especially as a Wild fan... it blows!!

The worst aspect of the new schedule is the travel. It is great for eastern conference teams that are a 30 minute airplane trip apart but for teams like the stars where not a SINGLE team in the division even plays in the same TIME ZONE it is a real pain. 24 games are against the Sharks, Ducks, and Kings (all on the west coast) constant travel and the closest opponent is maybe the Coyotes and that is still a different time zone and a rather long plane ride. Not to mention the fact the league markets Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin as the saviors of the game but some of the markets that need the most help only get to see these teams once every 3 years and if the player is injured and out of the line up 3 more years to see them again.

The Schedule and scheduling have been brutal this year. Calgary playing Colorado 3 times in a row in 6 nights is horrible. Just imagine if one team was in a slump or had major injuries, they could go from 1st to last in the NW standings and lose the season series against a divisonal team. Meanwhile, at the start of the season, Calgary had a few 7-10 nights off between games....it makes no sense. Oh, and the brain trust that decided to reschedule the Avs/Flames for the last day of the season meaning the Flames play Tuesday at home, Thursday in SJ, Saturday back home, Sunday in Denver and Tuesday possibly somewhere for playoffs.....well if that last game means nothing, Denver fans will be seeing the Flames AHL team!!

Ok the schedule sucks, but the avs playing calgary 3 times in a row can only be blamed on the weather. One of these games is a make up from a postponed game earlier in the season. However, it sucks that the avs don't play dallas again. And at the beginning of the season the avs played a late game in denver on night to accommodate the versus schedule than had to fly to minnesota to play the next night, which was just bs, and this happened more than once. Plus, it blows only getting to see Crosby, Ovechkin, etc like once evry 3 years. And they have all but killed the gold old fashioned avs-red wings rivalry.

Someone should inform the NBA(oops I mean NHL )Comissioner Bettman that rivalries are not created, they just are. Back when my Leafs played Detoit and even St Louis it was a huge rivalry and awesome hockey but now they only see them every 3 years. Back when it was the original 6 every game was a rivalry and every fan new every player in the NHL. In todays NHL the fans want to see players like Ovechkin and Crosby but may not see them play live for 3 years. This is not right. Many small market teams rely on the gate revenue to survive and if no big stars show up the money coming in will be lower and they may be forced to fold.
Even MLB changed its schedule to have intra squad games throughout the year so National league teams play American league teams. Bettman should stop monkeying around and not only ask the teams what they want but have the fans vote.

Yeah. I hate it too. I'm a Leafs fan and suffered watching the leafs playing the Bruins like 5 times in four weeks. Toronto vs. Boston is not even close to a rivalry nor will it ever be. I understand Bettman is trying to build rivalries but is going about it the wrong way. Toronto vs. Montreal, Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo and Philly is a rivalry. This is what the fans want to see. My suggestion is this. Decrease the number of teams. Get rid of teams that have low attendance records year after year or move them to where hockey is appreciated ie. Hamilton, Winnapeg, Quebec City or a second team in Toronto. Play every team in the league at least twice. The players are big boys and make hoards of money. They can handle a little jet lag once in a while. The biggest problem is the number of teams in the N.H.L. The thoughts of putting teams in K.C. and Oklahoma makes me cringe. Anyways, yes the sched sux and my kids could put together a better schedule.

we have 2 more years before this schedule ends, they actually had a meeting just before the NHL All-Star game to see if the schedule would be change for next year and they had a vote 19-11 if it was 20-10 the schedule would of been changed for next year. just 2 more years and yes it will be changed. look at the Sens vs Leafs 4 games in September there trying to make the rivalry bigger but there actually making them boring. I'm not a Sens or Leafs fan but its not the playoffs they should of just spread the games apart throughout the year there 7 months in a season and some teams playing 4 to 5 times each other in 1 month now that doesn't make any sense.

I hate the schedule. I'm from Detroit and I hate that we have to face Nashville and Columbus 8 times a year. The schedule needs to be more balanced. Here's how it should be:
-play your division 4 times (16 games)
-play the rest of the conference at least 3 times each (36 games total)
-play the opposite conference home and away (30 games)

16+36+30=82

Colorado vs Dallas should play more. They also play maybe 2 games in a row, or play 3 games in 5 days, then they would play in maybe 5 days or so later. Bad schedule, should be changed. Bettman = RETARDED.

not everyone hates it...some of those cheapskate owners love it because it reduces travel costs for their own team. Plus, it wouldn't matter which opponent comes to town because these owners know that their team cannot attract that many fans anyway, even if hot teams like Pittsburgh and Buffalo square off against the cheapskate owners' teams.

Time to get rid of the schedule Bettman! The majority of the hockey world dislike it! Time to stop catering to specific interests!

The schedule needs to be changed.

Maybe 8 against your division, 3 against the other teams in your conference, and 20 against the other conference (one division at home only, one division on the road only, and one division at home and on the road). Same number of games and you have to play all the other teams in the league each year.
