I think there's little difference between the two.
But, when you debate, you try to persuade other people
into your opinion, I guess. Am I right?

Yeah, discussion is normally people who agree on something, and are just kinda talking about the ins and outs of it...

Debate is trying to change the others mind that you are right... and you probably are, so dont worry ;)

Ya that's about right. In a debate it's more of an opposition between contradictory ideas, while a discussion is more of a friendly talk about the ideas.
