Sometimes I will hear that lawyers make a lot of money. Other times, I hear that they actually make a low income-or at least, a low starting income. Is this true for most lawyers (since there are exceptions in every case). Just curious. =)
What is the best paying job for a lawyer? corporate law? real estate?

A first-year lawyer starting with a major firm in a big city will make about $145,000 to $160,000 per year. (firm = corporate law)

Lawyers working in public interest (legal clinics, government jobs, public defenders, prosecutors, pro bono, etc.) make a lot less with a lot of variety. I'd say starting out at $35,000 - $70,000 but that is just a guess.

Also, location makes a big difference too. Lawyers in small towns make far less obviously.

Most lawyers get paid by the hour for their services and that is $150.00 to $250.00 an hour that is the normal range of fees. The money a lawyer makes im sure depends on his reputation as a lawyer if he is known for alot of big cases and winning them im sure he or she is going to make more then a beginner lawyer with not much clientel or experience.
