There's only one public university in Penang: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Being a public university means the fees are much cheaper than the private ones. However, places are very limited. Details at:


There is no private brick & mortar university yet in Penang (if you discount the latest Wawasan Open University which is an online uni) though there are colleges leading to degree-level studies. Among them are Inti International College, Tunku Abdul Rahman College etc.

As for scholarships and grants, try enquiring the uni/colleges directly. There are also scholarships and grants from companies and government agencies, in addition to soft loans from the federal government (e.g. PTPTN), from the government of the state you come from (e.g. Yayasan Pahang), from banks and employers.

dont dream too much about scholarship. Its hard to get. Its more for the bumiputra's. No offence. But if you are a muslim, then you can write a letter to the Prime Minister and say you are an A1 student and you need that scholarship. Even if you do very bad in school changes of getting a scholarship is high if you are a bumiputra. Thats why many grad's in our country can't speak proper English. Good luck.

hmmm...university education is extremely important...cost shouldnt b a major concern cos it think u must b quite a smart student. Worldwide recognition is more important otherwise u might have difficulties findin a gd job in MNCs.If u r reli broke... go work for 1 to 2 yrs b4 takin ur degree rather than opt for the cheapest.
