I support the legalization of marijuana for a few main reasons.
1) There is a good amount of scientific research pointing to the medicinal benefits of THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) Some studies with rats in Spain and Virginia have shown that THC either slows down or completely stops several kinds of cancer in rats. But more research needs to be done. Also, marijuana, when used after chemotherapy (treatment for cancer) takes away some of the nasty side effects of chemotherapy, such as the nausea that follows the treatment.
2) Criminal origanizations make a HUGE profit from marijuana. The Hells Angels alone reap in millions every year from their marijuana operations. And when gangs make that much money, they want to keep it and they want to keep making more. So they fight other competing gangs, they kill, and they make the world a worse place. Legalize the drugs those guys deal with (mainly marijuana and cocaine), and their main sources of revenue (and strength) will be completely gone.
Not to mention that I would much rather buy pot at a store where its legal and I know where its coming from, then from some strange guy on a street corner. It would make smoking much safer for the smoker to legalize it.
3) Marijuana is basically the hemp plant. The hemp plant can be used for all kinds of things, not just smoking. Out of the hemp plant you can make rope, cloth, biodegradable plastic (as opposed to oil based plastic which is not biodegradable and which is what we use now). You can cook with the hemp plant. The seeds are high in protein and have the only source on earth of two fatty acids that help eliminate cholesterol. The plastic you can make out of hemp is ten times stronger than steel, and in fact the first Ford Model-T ever built was not only made out of hemp plastic, but was made to run on hemp gasoline!
Not to mention that you can make very durable paper out of hemp that requires many less chemicals to make it into good paper. Instead of cutting down forests, which take a lifetime to grow, hemp takes one season to grow to the point where it can be used for paper.
Basically, thats why I support legalization, the benefits far outweigh any possible negative consequences of legalization. (In my opinion of course.)

I am totally for them legalizing marijuana,I myself do not do it ,but I have known people who did,and let me tell you,I would rather be around someone smoking alittle pot as to being around a stupid drunk, making an a** out of himself, cause all pot does to people I have been around is makes them mellow, and not roudy,I also have known someone that had arthritis in the knees and ankles and was on that Vioxx that they took off the market, and they smoked alittle weed and it has helped tramendously on the pain,so medically it can be a wonder drug that is natural,so there for I am totally for it being legalized, and then they could tax you and make money, just like they do alcohol, and I see nothing wrong with that.

I support it! I do not smoke it myself but I grew up in an area where it was legal and people were fine over there....if weed was legal the government could tax it and make money and it would get rid of some of the crime in the USA....making it legal will NOT mean everyone will smoke (I grew up where it was legal and I did not smoke it).....I see no reason why it is illegal...alcohol does more damage to your system then weed and it is legal....
