men actually wear:
boxers, brief, boxer-briefs, bikini briefs, y-shirts, etc
women wear:
panties, briefs, boxers, thongs, bras, etc

Because men an women have different bodies, panties are made for women and underwear are made for men. If you are just talking about the names being different panties are feminine and underwear is manly.

men can wear boxers too but women could wear underwear too..just depends..most people call them panties because they are so different...smaller and they're silky and lacy and all sorts of things
