I used to spend a couple weeks every summer in a cabin in Guffey, Colorado in the 60's with my grandparents (who lived the rest of the year in Texas). I drove through there about 10 years ago to renew my memory.

The cabin had an outhouse and water was from a rain barrel. The well outside the house had a dead skunk in it so no one ever got water from it. It was about 100 yards from "Main Street" (the dirt road through the middle of town from Canon City to Florissant). It's a wide spot in the road in a narrow valley. The view from there is nothing to write home about. It's very rural, but not close to anything except the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. To spend the winter there, you better have a four-wheel drive vehicle with a snowplow and expect to be snowed in occasionally for a few days. There are old mining shafts in the hills around there so you better not let any youngsters out loose without careful supervision.

A very small town of about 1000 .Basically a wide spot in the road with a zip code. 35- 40 miles west of Colorado Springs .Lots of beauty but nothing else, Cold snowy winters and warm to hot summers. I guess it's ok if you're retired and rich. but if you have to work, it'll be a long commute, especially in the winter.
do some more research a 950sq ft 2br 1 ba house (shack) $160000
