Uh, I'll try to answer this...dog.

The word new is defined:"... as in not of long duration; having just (or relatively recently) come into being or been made or acquired or discovered"

News: "...reporting of information of any kind" .

The reason they don't call it "olds" is because it would confuse the audience who have never heard of the word (which doesn't exist) and if you missed the 11pm and see it for the first time at 2am, it is new...and news..to you...dog.
