I have been told by my school that wikipedia is no longer to be used as a reference. I wanted to know if anyone has tried answers.com?

Sounds like the school doesn't want you to cite collaborative or publicly editable sources, wiki's and blogs etc. And here's why. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia Probably the same for answers.com. Check with your teachers to be sure what they'll accept.

Sounds like they want you to stick to traditional media (books, newspapers/magazines, government documents, etc.) No problem, just go to Wikipedia's sources. They cite references at the end of most articles. Plus you're on the Internet, the world at your command!

And then there's
Google Scholar http://scholar.google.com/
PubMed for medical papers http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/
Cite stuff from the big boys. Go for that extra credit :)

You are so lucky. I had to walk barefoot in the snow six miles uphill (both ways) to get to a decent research library. You have the Internet!

It's very similar I've heard. The reason wikipedia site is no longer used as references is probably because the articles are submitted by users and they could be easily prone to mistakes, these can be corrected but perhaps not in time for homework. I think for the very reason they are so similar in that way you probably wont be able to use it as a reference either.
